Santos  Trailhead, FL

81,290 acres of pure off-road riding bliss. Santos is the largest and best known mountain biking park in the Ocala. The greenway was born out of the failed Cross Florida Barge Canal which was terminated in the late 60s. Santos is named for the small town where the main trailhead is located.

There are many trails to take . The trails are marked to indicate level of difficulty. Yellow tags indicate beginner level trails, blue is for moderate level trails, and red trails are for experienced riders.

The advanced section is very rocky and technical. You have to be a real mountain biker; for the freerider, it is the best place in Florida. Remember that the trails tend to wind and intersect with each other so listen for approaching riders.

From I-75 exit on 341. Hwy. 484 (Belleview exit)  to Hwy. 475. Head north (left) on Hwy 475 about 4 to 5 miles to S.E. 80th Street. Head east (right) on S.E. 80th to just before it crosses SR 441.

 

 Tanasi Trail System,TN

The Cherokee National Forest has been very proactive in working with mountain bikers to construct and maintain trails.

This region is home to some of the finest off-road bike trails to be found. Tanasi is a newly dedicated trail complex that will eventually encompass over 40 miles of trails.

From the Whitewater Center, a bridge across the Ocoee River is the gateway to a new system of trails which will cross Chestnut Mountain to link with the Iron Mountain and Conasauga River trails.

Directions:From there take highway 64 to Ocoee. Pass over highway 411 and pass the Ocoee Dam on the right and the Ocoee Ranger Station on the left. Thunder Rock Campground is behind Ocoee Powerhouse #3 on the right.

The Ocoee Whitewater Center is just past the powerhouse on the right (approximately 28 miles from Cleveland).

    Tsali Trails, NC

Probably the most popular features of Tsali Recreation Area are the 40 miles of trails suited for mountain bikers and horse-back riders, as well as hikers. 

The 4-loop system offers a variety of landscapes. You can climb 1-foot wide rugged paths or travel flat, well-beaten roads. The four trails--Right, Left, Mouse Branch, and Thompson Loops--meander through mixed pine and hardwoods on a peninsula stretching into Fontana Lake.

"Tsali" is the name of a Cherokee Indian man who gave his life so that some of his people could stay in the Great Smoky Mountains region.

From BRYSON CITY, take U.S.19-S for 9 miles, turn right on NC 28 for 5.5 miles, turn right at the sign for 1.5 miles (gravel).

Caloosahatchee Regional Park, FL

 

The Caloosahatchee Regional Park mountain bike trail is strictly single-track and provides adventure and challenges for beginners and novice mountain bikers alike.

The trail is composed of fast, flat, open areas that are intermixed with areas that cut through the natural canopy of Florida, providing a very scenic and tight ride feeling.There are plenty of switchbacks, rock/root infested areas, mud pits, sugar sand ascents/descents and topographic relief.

From I-75 : Take exit 143 heading East, turn North on S.R. 31, turn East on S.R. 78. The park is 6.6 miles on the left.
